Glycolic Acid Benefits

Terasita Skin Care glycolic acid peels contain cosmetic grade, organic glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugarcane that does a wonderful job of exfoliating and resurfacing the skin. In recent years, glycolic acid has become popular in cosmetic preparations because of its beneficial effects on skin through its deep exfoliating and moisturizing properties.

As we age, dead skin cells build up on the skin's surface, causing our pores to clog and our skin to look dull and lifeless. Our glycolic acid peels exfoliate the surface of the skin, removing several layers of dead skin cells. This deep exfoliation greatly improves the appearance of fine lines, acne, very slight scarring, blotchiness, and sun damage. The hydrating properties of glycolic acid then leave your skin looking fresher and younger. When used regularly, Terasita Skin Care glycolic acid peels have the ability to improve dry, thickened, sun-damaged and problem-prone skin. After just one week of use, skin is softer and smoother, pigmentation is improved, and pores seem smaller. Studies have also shown that glycolic acid products also stimulate natural collagen production, resulting in measurable improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Use of glycolic products also will help your other products penetrate better for improved effectiveness.

HOW DO GLYCOLIC ACID PEELS WORK?

Terasita Skin Care glycolic peels are used for the purpose of achieving a deep exfoliation and resurfacing of the skin. A skin peel uses a chemical solution that is applied to your skin to form flakes that eventually peel off, leaving softer, brighter skin. This process regenerates the skin, making it smoother and with fewer wrinkles. Every day skin cells die, flake off and are replaced by new cells from beneath. As we age, this process happens less often. As a result, the skin becomes wrinkled and blotchy and begins to show signs of age. Many skin peels use alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid to freshen and exfoliate the skin by removing dead cells in order to produce new cell growth and stimulate collagen production.

We recommend that you use Terasita Skin Care Glycolic Acid Peel once a week for the first six weeks in order to achieve glowing skin! You should then skip two or three weeks and begin using the peel every other week for the next two months. After that, you should use the peel once a month or as needed for special occasions. However, if you have dry skin, you should only use the peel every other week to start and taper down to once a month after 6 weeks. Why? Because over-exfoliation can make your skin more dry, which you don't want to do.

What types of skin problems can a Glycolic Acid Peel help?

  1. Acne
  2. Aging skin
  3. Uneven skin tone
  4. Dry, thickened, calloused feet
  5. Excessive sebum
  6. Stubborn blackheads and whiteheads
  7. Sun spots

ACNE

Terasita Skin Care Glycolic Acid Peels are also helpful in the treatment of acne-prone skin. When oil and dead skin cells build up on your skin and clog your pores, blackheads, whiteheads and pimples can occur. A blackhead is an open pore that is clogged with impurities and sebum. A whitehead is a closed pore that is clogged with impurities and sebum. If you experience these type of problems, we recommend that prior to using any Glycolic Acid Peel, you thoroughly clean your pores with Glysa Clear Exfoliating Solution. Glysa Clear Exfoliating Solution contains both salicylic acid and glycolic acid, which cleans the sebum filled follicles and pores of your skin, softening and removing impurities such as blackheads and whiteheads. For purchasing information about Glysa Clear Exfoliating Solution, click on Acne/Oily Skin in the navigation at the left. We also carry Glysa Clear Skin Refiner which works in the same way as our Glysa Clear Exfoliating Solution, but it will also help regulate oily skin and reduce the look of large pores.

Many things contribute to acne: hormones, health, medications and the environment. We have all heard that eating chocolate and fried foods cause acne, but this is simply not true. However, research has shown that eating foods that are high in sugar content can trigger certain hormones in the body that promote acne. Therefore, it is recommended that you refrain from eating foods that spike blood sugar, such as candy, sugary soft drinks and white bread. Instead, try eating whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables to help curb sugar cravings and control outbreaks of acne. Also, be sure to drink at least 8 large glasses of water every day to help flush the skin of impurities and toxins.
